If you’re wondering how to group on canva mobile apps and websites, we’ll explain more in this post.
Grouping elements in photo editing software happens when you want to merge multiple objects. For example, you can move them, resize them, duplicate them, and do more together.
Let’s take a look at how to group and ungroup elements in Canva for the web (Windows, Mac), Android, and iPhone.

Group and Ungroup Elements In Canva (PC Users)
As we already know, Canva is a wonderful tool for creating posters, images, wallpapers, social media posts, etc. There are three methods of grouping items in the web version of Canva. Let’s check one after the other.
Method 1: Temporarily group elements with the mouse
If you want to use multiple elements only once, you can group them temporarily. To do this, drag the cursor and select the objects you want to group. You will notice that the selection border will appear around the selected objects. Now perform necessary activities like resize, delete, move, etc.
This is one of the easiest ways to group objects in Canva. However, the disadvantage of this method is that all objects in the selected range (usually a square or rectangle) are selected.
To ungroup selected objects using this method, click anywhere outside the selected boxes. The checkboxes disappear and the objects work individually.
Method 2: Temporarily group elements with the keyboard shortcut
In this method, you group elements that are located anywhere on your screen using keyboard shortcuts. First, click on one of the objects you want to select. Then press the Shift key on your keyboard and click on other elements you want to select.
Note: Hold down the Shift key while selecting other items.
This method gives you free will to pick and choose items even if they fall within the selected range when chosen with the mouse. As you can see in the image above, only the three clouds are selected and not the hearts.
To ungroup an object, click the mouse button while holding down the Shift key on the keyboard. Deselects the element.
Note: You can use keyboard shortcuts to add or remove objects from the group if selected with the first method.
Method 3: Permanently group and ungroup elements
With the two methods above, you will lose the group as soon as you click anywhere outside the selection. To keep selected items intact, whatever you do, you have the Groups feature in Canva.
To do this, first, select the desired objects using method 1 or 2. That is, drag the mouse or select the items using the Shift key. Once selected, click the Group button in the top right corner. You can also use the Ctrl + G (Windows) or Command + G (MacOS) keyboard shortcut to group elements after items are selected.
When you click an object or perform an action, other grouped elements do the same.
To ungroup elements, click on one of the grouped elements. Then press the Ungroup button at the top. You can also take the help of keyboard shortcuts. Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + G (Windows) and Command + Shift + G (Mac) to permanently ungroup elements.
