What is Layer in CorelDraw
All CorelDRAW drawings are a combination of several stacked objects. The stacking order can be defined as a vertical sequence of objects that adds to the appearance of the drawing. An efficient way to organize objects is to use invisible planes called layers.
For example, one can stratify to organize the architectural plan of a building. We can organize different parts of a building (e.g. structural, electrical, and plumbing) by placing them in separate layers.
Local and Master Layers
The specified content is placed above the level. This content specified for a particular page overlaps the local layer. It is used so that all pages of any document can be placed above the master layer known as the global level. The master layer is stored above each virtual page called the master page.
All new files are created with the default page and the master page. A default page contains the following named layers:
Guides: can save page-specific guidelines (locally). Any object placed on a guide layer represents only an outline and an outline acts as a guide.
Layer 1: Can represent a standard local layer. When we draw objects on a page, an object is placed on the layer unless we select another layer.
We can insert multiple layers on the master page to hold content such as static background, footer, or headers. By default, the master page combines the following layers:
Guides: Contains guidelines that can be applied to any page of a document. Any object placed on a guide layer represents outlines only, and these outlines serve as guidelines.
Workspace – Contains objects outside the edges of a drawing shape. With this layer, we can store the objects that we want to add to a drawing.
Document Grid: This contains a document grid and is applied to all pages of a document. These document grids are always at the bottom layer.
A preset layer above a master cannot be copied or deleted.
To insert content into the layer, we must first choose a layer so that it becomes an active layer.
How to add a new layer in CorelDraw 2021
1. Click Object > Object Manager.
2. Complete the following tasks:
In the top right corner of the Object manager docker, press the Follow button and press New Layer to create a layer.
In the upper right corner of the Object manager docker, tap the Follow button and tap New master layer (all pages) to create the main layer.
Change layer properties
By default, printing, editing, exporting, and displaying attributes are enabled for all new layers we create. We can change properties at any time. We can also make the local layer in the master layer and the master layer in the local layer.
Show and Hide layers
We can choose to hide or show the layers in the drawing. Hiding layers allows us to edit and label objects on top of some other layers. In addition, it reduces the time it takes to update our drawing when we edit it.
Renaming layers
We can rename layers to detect their position and content within a stack array or their connection to other layers.
Using layer color
We can change the layer color so that objects on each layer can appear along with a layer’s color if we apply a wireframe preview. For example, when we place different elements of the architectural plane (structural, electrical, plumbing) on insulating layers, we can apply the layer color to quickly detect which element the objects belong to.
How to change layer properties

Copy and Move objects and layers
We can copy or move layers across a page or between pages. We can also copy or move chosen objects to each new layer, by adding the layers on top of a master page. Copying and moving layers affect the stacking order.
We can change the order of the master layers concerning local layers by showing the list of each layer on the most recent page or by dragging the name of the layer to a new location in the layer list
We can copy and move objects to other layers by dragging objects to a new layer in the Object Properties docker.
