Let’s start with the tutorial: How to create wave effect in Photoshop
Step 1
Open the image you want to add wave to in Photoshop. By default, the image will open as a Background layer in the Layers panel. Press Ctrl + J (Win) or CMD + J (Mac) to create a copy of the image layer.
Step 2
Go to File > Place Embedded. Then browse and place the wavy water image from your files (assuming you are using a water image).
Now I’m going to resize the wavy water image so that it completely covers the previous image. You can reduce the opacity of the image with wavy water so that you can see the image below.
After transforming the image size, press Enter (Windows)/Return (Mac).
Step 3
Increase the opacity of the wavy water image to 100%. Reorder the layers by placing wavy water just above the background layer. Then hide the visibility of the top layer, named Image.
Step 4
Select the wavy water image layer in the Layers panel and change the Blending Mode to Overlay.
Step 5
We mixed the image of the wavy water with the image in the step above. But it also mixed with other parts of the image. To remove the blending effect from the other parts, we’ll add a layer mask to the image layer with wavy water.
Select the layer and click the Add Layer Mask icon in the Layers panel. Set the foreground color to black and then select the brush. Move the cursor with the left mouse button to the part of the image where you want to hide the blending effect of wavy water.
Step 6
Turn on the visibility of the top layer and select the layer. Then change the layer’s blending mode to Color.
